California residents are not authorized to use this distribution on any "device" in the state of California effective January 1, 2027.

California law CA AB1043 requires a complex age verification system implemented for operating systems. Interestingly the law explicitly excludes a host of browser-ecosystem technologies and seemingly implies virtualization and containers are also exempt. Unfortunately Fez Enterprising Linux will comply-by-upstream automatically due to its nature.

However, the overly-broad and technologically ignorant stance of this law including framing it in terms of modern mobile phone ecosystems with no regard to non-commercial, open source, or classical desktop/workstation use whatsoever is an intolerable restriction on open source freedom as well as on information technology itself. While the outrage may not seem critical for say a resource project such as Fez but in the broader context, as-written, this must be opposed. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
